Eye Floaters Caused by Stress and Anxiety

Article Directory :: Health & Fitness Articles

Everyone has problems with their eyes from time to time. Many people have vision problems that require them to wear glasses or contacts, many have other issues such as cataracts or astigmatisms and many people experience temporary eye problems such as conjunctivitis or allergies that cause their eyes to swell and water from time to time. The eyes are important to everyone, but they are far from immune to contracting illness and disease; eye problems can be relatively minor or they can be dangerous. Knowing the difference between a small problem such an eyelash in the eye or a case of pink eye versus a detached retina that was made known to you through the increasing appearance of eye floaters can be the catalyst that saves your eyesight.

Eye floaters are not always a cause for concern. In fact, they are something that occurs pretty regularly in some people as they age. Eye floaters are caused by age; when a person grows older the gel like substance in their eyes begins to dissipate and turn to a liquid substance. Sometimes this liquid like substance, called vitreous, breaks off in little strands that look like cobwebs and they interfere with your vision for a little while. This is not uncommon and it is not dangerous. However, when it begins to occur at a rapid rate and is accompanied by a loss of peripheral vision or sudden flashes of light, it could indicate that your retina is detaching from your eye and you need to seek medical attention very quickly.

For those who have eye floaters that are not dangerous, you needn't worry about your vision. However, you may find yourself annoyed with your eye floaters. This is an eye problem that isn't dangerous but it is obnoxious. While there is little you can do to cure your eye floaters, you can do things to change your lifestyle that will make them appear less frequently. The first thing you can do - if applicable - is to quit smoking. Smoking is dangerous to your eyes and can cause eye floaters with more regularity than those that occur with simple age.

Eye problems are more common in people that do not sleep well. This means you should cut back on your alcohol consumption so that your sleep will be better and your eyesight will be better. More sleep will decrease the amount of eye floaters that you experience. Stress and anxiety are very common causes of eye problems such as eye floaters. Stress and anxiety can cause chemicals in the brain to function improperly, which can cause eye floaters because the body is not doing what it needs to do to protect your health and your eyesight. By reducing stress and anxiety, you can eliminate a great deal of eye floaters. Essentially, if you have eye floaters, you can manage them by managing your stress level, anxiety level and your alcohol consumption. You also need to stop smoking to rid yourself of eye floaters; they needn't be a problem.
